Favourite Music

After books, musical taste is probably the second best way to make a snap decision about what someone is like. A few years ago, I was quite obsessed with finding to and listening to new music. That’s faded a bit now I’m old (well, twenty-something) and boring, but I still love to listen to songs and daydream. Like anyone, exactly what I listen to varies week by week and mood by mood, but the bands and artists below (in no particular order) have been amongst my favourites for years:

  • Vampire Weekend
  • The Decemberists
  • Panic! At the Disco
  • Fallout Boy
  • The Divine Comedy
  • Green Day
  • The Soundtrack to Evita (Yup, weird tangent to go off at I know)
  • My Chemical Romance
  • Arctic Monkeys (Saying you liked a band before they were famous is a pretty dull  conversation topic, but I really and truly did)
  • The Killers
  • Placebo

There is also some other music that I’ve been listening to a lot recently, but that hasn’t yet sufficiently passed the test of time to make the list above:

  • King Charles
  • Lana del Rey
  • Julia Johnson
  • Adele

As with the books, I intend to expand this page and to write blog posts about my absolute favourites/the ones that are most relevant to my writing, over time. This will probably focus more on the bottom list, because with a few exceptions, if you’re not reasonably familiar with the names in the top list, something’s gone wrong.
